ULTIMATE SPRING CLEANING FOR YOUR ROOF CHECKLIST

It’s a new year. Winter has come and gone, and spring is now upon us. This means it’s time for everybody’s favorite activity of the year — spring cleaning. Although we may dread the idea of it, there is no denying that it is a necessity for the most of us that don’t constantly perform upkeeping year round on our homes. Here at BulletROOF® we want to make sure your roof doesn’t get left behind in your spring cleaning plans. Being one of the most, if not, the most, important parts of your home, it is certainly important to do routine cleaning and inspection of your roof.

1. CLEAN OUT YOUR GUTTERS

Although you may be saying, “But I just cleaned out my gutters in the fall!” the chances are good that they are filled with leaves and debris once again after the winter months. If you don’t believe me, go check for yourself! It’s important to have your gutters as cleaned out as possible going into the rainy spring months so that water doesn’t build up on your roof where it could potentially damage it or create mold. Along with cleaning the gutters, it would be wise to do a quick inspection of the wear and tear on your gutters to see if any need to be replaced.

2. EXAMINE YOUR ROOF FOR LOOSE SHINGLES AND FLASHING

Do this only if it’s possible to safely climb onto your roof to inspect it. If not, you can merely observe from the ground or from a ladder and take note of any gaps in the shingling or shingles that appear loose and ready to fly away in the next big storm. Also, if possible, check to be sure that your flashing is not buckling or coming apart from the roof.

If you do notice any of these faults in your roof, be sure to give us a call for a possible repair quote sooner rather than later. Time will only lead to a more expensive repair procedure if roof damage is ignored and put on the backburner.

3. TRIM NEARBY BRANCHES

Trimming away branches that are encroaching closer and closer to your roof will not only make cleaning out your gutters easier next time around, but will also help avoid any accidents that are waiting to happen. Tree branches are one of the leading causes of roof damage.

4. LOOK AT THE INSIDE OF YOUR ATTIC AND HOME

Lastly, check for any signs of water damage or mold in your attic or on the ceiling in your home. If you see any staining or smell of mildew, give us a call so we can determine the cause of the damage and make the repair quickly before it has a chance to get worse.

We hope you find this information helpful when you perform your spring cleaning.
